Editorial [1st Dec 29482]
When
we started Newland News magazine almost three years ago we were full of
enthusiasm and happy to be able to bring the news to the neutral
community as they happened. I think we managed to achieve the main goal
back then. However, due to many reasons the magazine practically
dissapeared for a while.
Today
I am happy to be able to write these few words on the new, reactivated
and refurbished magazine. I have passed the editor duties to Bret
"Conchord" Marlowe but I am still here fulfilling my duty as the
Newland News director.
The
magazine will continue to fulfill the same goals we had before but with
new look, new features, and partly, new staff. The future looks bright
but I ask you, the readers, to get involved. If you see something
happening, something odd, unusual or even hear a gossip, come to us and
maybe we will publish it.

Editorial [12th
Nov 29482]
Newland is a city and
community loved by many. Long after the Omni
occupation of Borealis, Newland remains neutral to the full extent of
the word. Not only do we see a population of people carrying the
neutral status ID chip and a Council made up solely of neutral
citizens, but we see booming trade and tourism from Omni-Tek employees,
Clan members and nearly as many neutrals again. The word neutral
doesn't just represent a group of people labelled "neutrals" by the
ongoing conflict on Rubi-Ka. To me it represents a freedom, a departure
from one side or another, a deviation from the black and white, an
incorporation of all creeds and ideals. Newland is a neutral community
through and through, not because of whom we exclude, but for whom we
open our borders and welcome.
This is the idea I hope to encourage with the relaunch of Newland News.
The magazine is a free forum for all ideas and biases alike (well...
within reason). As such, the doors are hereby open; we call for writers
of any kind, for reporters and investigators, cartoonists, satirists
and photographers. To join the ranks, have a look at the recruitment
page and drop us a line. Freelance work is also, of course, more than
welcome and can be sent to my gridmail: conchord@newlandnews.net or
submitted through the public forums.
When Director Alossa Laurence offered me the Editor job I had all kinds
of exciting plans going through my mind. We intend to change how
Newland News is presented: from seperate issues to a continuous grid
presentation coupled with an interactive public forum. New projects
include "Eye on Last Ditch" ; news on the
general coming and goings of our friendly neutral neighbours as well as
the dancefloor gossip from Reet's Retreat and whatever other juicy
tidbits we can get from there. I'm also hoping to search far and wide
for any and all comic-strip artists that aren't too well-hidden. No
promises, but figers crossed! But of course it's not just up to
me. What new feature would you like to see? What kind of articles would
you like to read? Just drop us a line or head on over to the feedback
section of the gridForum.
Look out for me pretending to work around Newland. But please don't
tell Alossa if you notice my eyes closed behind my shades.
